Voice Teacher

Jennie teaches voice at Wilfrid Laurier University (2017 - ongoing).

She has also worked as a guest teacher at the Algoma Conservatory in Sault Ste. Marie, On., where she taught voice, as well as developed the curriculum and taught a musical theatre workshop for youth. This course involved exploring spoken text from age appropriate scenes and monologues, and music in the form of ensemble numbers from musicals, which Jennie staged for a final performance.

Vocal Coach

Jennie worked as the Singing Coach for the 2011 Mirvish production of the musical Billy Elliot in Toronto, On. In this role she coached the young actors in the parts of“Billy “ and “Micheal” as well as adult actors in the roles of “Dad” and “Tony”. Through
this work she gained valuable experience with the changing male voice, and helped maintain vocal health in this demanding production.

In 2018 Jennie was specifically hired to coach the lead child actor in the role of “Roch Carrier” in the National Arts Centre production of The Hockey Sweater, directed by Donna Feore and musically directed/composed by Jonathan Monro.

The Stratford Festival of Canada

Jennie has worked as the Singing Coach for the Acting and Musical Companies of the Stratford Festival of Canada since 2014. Currently in her 8th season with the company, she works with actors in both musicals and plays, to help them learn and
maintain their music for the duration of the ten month repertory season. In this work she teaches in individual tutorials, attends rehearsals, takes notes on diction, balance, and blend, and works closely with the musical director to help develop strategies and maintain vocal health in the productions.

2022 Season
The Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre

This year marks Jennie’s fourth season as guest teacher in the Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre, the Stratford Festival’s Young Artist Training Programme. In this programme Jennie team teaches a six week singing workshop with Musical Director Franklin Brasz, in which they collaborate in the leadership of group classes with the young artists of the programme. In these classes they work with the young artists on the basic principles of singing, develop musical ideas and co-ordinations, develop a systematic approach to learning music, introduce new repertoire, and draw parallels between musical concepts and their text work as actors.

Masterclasses and Choral Workshops

Jennie has been twice-invited to present masterclasses at Mount Allison University in which she worked with the undergraduate singers on aspects of interpretation, as well as technical concepts, through a wide variety of repertoire including art song, lieder and opera.

At Western University Jennie co-presented a lecture in the Voice Friday Series with Anita Krause on “Performing and Coaching at Stratford”, and was also invited by the Music Education Students’ Association (MESA) to present a workshop on “Building a Private Voice Studio.”
